Second graders have been learning how to write like a scientist. In order to do so students have been learning more about the Scientific Method. Students have been learning how to write a science lab report. They have been creating a question they are trying to find the answer to. Students have been creating a hypothesis of what they think will happen, then they have been creating a procedure they will use to help them test out their hypothesis. Students have been collecting data from their experiments and using that data to explain their results and form some conclusions. Check out some photos of the class in action while they work together to brain storm how they can make their cars go farther on the carpeted floor. Some groups chose different ramps and some groups chose to change the height of their ramps. ALL students had a great time while learning so much about writing like a scientist and the Scientific Method!
Today second graders visited the Bushy Hill Nature Center. Students had the chance to learn about Bushy Hill’s Wetlands program. This program connects to our Soil and Plants Science units. Students were able to take a walk through the Cedar Swamp, learning about the plants and animals that live in that habitat. They also did a pond probe in the upper pond using nets and buckets to catch and observe plant and animal life. Students also used the center’s bioscope to take a look at some of the microscopic organisms found in water samples. Everyone had a fun filled day full of sunshine and interesting facts.
A special thanks to our chaperones: Mr. Minickene ( Nola's Dad), Ms. Brainerd ( Julia Rose's Mom), and Mrs. LaMay! |
