Our class spent time this November learning about The First Thanksgiving. Students have been taking a virtual field trip back in time, through the Scholastic website, where they have been learning about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Tribe. Students have been working together to explore the daily life of both the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Tribe. Students are comparing and contrasting the information they are learning about each using Venn Diagrams. Students are comparing and contrasting the housing, clothing, food, chores, schools, and games each group played. Not only has this project helped students to better understand the lives of those who faced that First Thanksgiving, but it has also helped students to continue to think about how to organize information that helps to show how two things are alike and different. You can continue to this research with your child by visiting the site: https://www.scholastic.com/scholastic_thanksgiving/.
It is hard to believe, but Second Grade is finishing up our second unit of study in reading. This unit focused on becoming nonfiction reading experts. Below our some of the charts we have created, with teaching points we focused on throughout this unit. Students are celebrating all their work that they have done to become experts on their topics by becoming a tour guide of their topic to share with the class.
