Our class has been very excited to be working with Mrs. Williams on a new unit of study in science through Project Lead the Way! During this unit students have been investigating and classifying different kinds of materials by their observable properties. They have been learning about states of matter and properties of materials including insulators and conductors. Students have been given a real world problem that they must try to find a solution to based on everything that they have been learning about the states of matter and the properties of materials. Students were introducted to the design problem by three characters- Angelina, Mylo, and Suzi. They are challenged to keep ice pops cold during a soccer game – without a cooler. Our class has been applying their newly learned knowledge and skills to determine the best materials to solve this design problem. Then they must evaluate how thier design worked and what improvements may need to be made.
The class has been extremely focused the task at hand. Below you can see our class hard at work studying, exploring and testing out materials that they will use to create thier final design. Students are getting close to completing thier final projects. Check back to see what thier final designs looked like :) |
